Title 24 Energy Analysis and Calculations
In 1978, California introduced the Title 24 energy code requiring new home construction and home additions to meet minimum energy efficiency levels.
Over the years, these efficiency requirements have become more complex, more demanding, and more costly. On Jan 1, 2010, the latest version of the Title 24 energy code became effective, and it is by far the most demanding and restrictive residential energy code in US history.
The most common and flexible way to show Title 24 compliance is by providing an energy analysis showing that the project meets California’s energy code requirements. This type of analysis is also known as “Title 24 energy calc’s”.
It is important to use a well-qualified, experienced Energy Analyst to do the energy calc’s for your project. A good analyst will have proper qualifications to do a thorough evaluation. The analyst will run many calculations to determine the most effective and least-costly energy efficiency items for your specific project.
A poorly done energy analysis will often result in efficiency measures for your project that are not cost-effective or practical. And this translates into unnecessary initial costs and recurring costs for your new home or addition.
Unfortunately many people offer Title 24 analysis services who are not certified, properly
trained, and who do not have a background in construction, engineering, or energy
efficiency. Even well-qualified analysts often don’t take the time to evaluate the many
different energy efficiency options to find out which ones are the most effective and
least costly.
For all of my clients, I always focus on finding the best efficiency measures for their specific project. I typically save my clients thousands of dollars in initial and operating costs for their new home or addition.
I am a Certified Energy Analyst and a Certified Energy Plans Examiner. Those certifications along with my training, experience in home design, and engineering background allow me to provide the highest quality residential energy analysis services available.
Please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss your upcoming project.
